Have you lost your pet?

If you have lost your pet, we understand that this is a very upsetting time for you and your family. There are several things you can do.

1) Call us during business hours and place a lost pet report 705-567-3433 (if we aren’t in, leave a message)

2) Tell your neighbours and canvass your neighbourhood – some people find shaking the treat bag or squeaking their favorite toy brings their pets running

3) Post signs in your neighbourhood or on social media such as our Kirkland Lake Animal Control Facebook Page

4) Come down to the Kirkland Lake Animal Control each day to check our “Pets” who have been brought in

5) Listen to CJKL for Pet Report Tuesdays & Thursdays @9:45 a.m.

Have you found a pet?

We really don’t want to see animals in distress, they will always be our first priority!

The Kirkland Lake Animal Control helps connect pets with their owners.

Make a Found Report

If you have found a lost or stray cat or dog, and you have it at your home, please call 705-567-3433 to place a found pet report. If the pet is wearing a tag, please write down the number and give it to us when you call. If the tag is current, we will be able to contact the owner. If there is no identification, we will take a description of the pet and try to match the report to current lost pet reports.

Animal Control Services

We can also arrange to come and pick up the pet and provide a safe place for it.

When the pet is in the animal control we have a better chance of connecting the pet with its owner. We are able to provide a better description of its appearance and behaviour to possible owners who call us, and we have people checking with us by coming in every day to if their pet has been brought to the animal control.

The other significant reason to have a lost or stray pet come to the animal  control is so that it can be scanned for a microchip. Not all pets have been microchipped, but for the ones who have been, the chip can be used to trace the pet to their owner. There is no way to tell if a pet has been microchipped by looking at it. It needs to be scanned, which is a pain-free process, in order to know.

If you choose to provide shelter

We recognize that some people feel uncomfortable bringing a lost pet to animal control. If you choose to keep the lost pet at your home, then we would ask you to make a found report, and respond to the phone calls of people looking for a lost pet that we will direct to you.

It is often very helpful to post Found Pet posters around your neighbourhood and up to a mile radius.

Contacting or sending notices to social media, other local animal organizations, veterinarians, pet stores and grocery stores can be helpful.

Please stay in touch with us, and together we will do our best to find the owners.

There is a $20 impound fee per day to house stray or lost animals. Pet owners are responsible for vet bills.
